London, Mar 11 (ANI): Angelina Jolie narrowly escaped being kidnapped, while on a visit to an unnamed destination in the capacity of a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR.

The Oscar winning star, who became a Goodwill Ambassador back in 2001, has travelled to some of the remotest and also war-torn areas of the world raising awareness of the plight of refugees.

However, one visit that really had a reeling was when she learnt that gangsters were plotting to kidnap her and hold her for a very large ransom.

"It was in a small village. I won't say where, or with whom, but some gangsters planned to kidnap me and extort a massive ransom. I was warned at the last minute, and managed to escape, luckily," the News of the World quoted her, as saying.

However, Jolie insists that she’s not about let one kidnap plot scare her away from the work she does for she wants to do her bit in lending a helping hand to underprivileged people.

"I don't want to act like the Mother Teresa of Hollywood. But I want to help where there is poverty and destruction," she said.

As for how beau Brad Pitt copes with their trips, well Jolie revealed that the couple solved their problems by working as a team.

"I love Brad very much and on our trips we pull together as a team," she said.

But Jolie does admit that things get tough when it affects the couple’s three kids – Maddox, Zahara and Shiloh – all of whom have been accompanying their parents on their trips to far-off places.

"Things only get difficult when it affects our children," she said.

"I have become more mature. I have learned to accept responsibility for myself, my children and my partner. Becoming a mum was the biggest change in my life, and it made me feel like a complete woman. At times in my life I was lost, without a purpose, now I'm more grounded," Jolie revealed. (ANI)
