22 March 2007 (Sawf News) - Anna Nicole Smith died from toxic levels of chloral hydrate, a sleep medication. However, she was also suffering from untreated sepsis that would have eventually killed her.

A report on Star magazine website, based on a joint investigation conducted by Star and the National Enquirer chronicles the sequence of events leading to the death of the former Playboy model.

Trouble started shortly before Anna left the Bahamas for Florida on 05 Feb 2007, three days before her eventual death. She was administered an injection on he left buttock using an un-sterilized needle that caused sepsis.

Tests did not reveal the nature of the substance injected into her but additional needle marks on the buttocks suggest she had been administered injections earlier on several occasions.

Anna began to develop a painful abscess at the site of the injection on her flight to Florida. Over the next three days the abscess progressively worsened and the pain became more excruciating.

By the time she reached the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Anna was running a temperature of 105 F from the blood infection.

Following her arrival at the resort Anna made a fatal mistake when she refused to go to the hospital. Her entourage had no option other than to try and control the fever with cold sponging, the orally administered antibiotic ciprofloxacin and an over-the-counter flu medicine.

As the sepsis progressed through the 6 and 7th of Feb vomiting and diarrhea set in and Anna was unable to urinate. She remained confined to bed.

Overnight on February 7, Anna took the sleeping medication chloral hydrate at a dosage level that proved fatal. She did not wake up on February 8 and was found unresponsive in bed at about 1:30 p.m by her nurse.

Broward County, Fla., Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Perper is expected to hold a press conference Monday (26 Mar 2007) to announce the former Playboy Playmate's cause of death.
