Usmagazine.com reports, Holmes was shopping at the Target store and had her handlers call the cops for her when a pair of photographers made her uneasy.
The 28-year-old actress is in the state to film the movie Mad Money with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton.
The local police reportedly escorted the mother and daughter Suri as they browsed the clothing sections at the store.
“The production office gave Katie the name of the chief of police and told her to call if she felt she needed it,” told Holmes’ rep.
An eyewitness told about Holmes, “She was quiet but she did sign autographs.”
Holmes and her daughter Suri will soon be joined by her super star husband Tom Cruise, who finished filming Lions for Lambs.

The media is nothing but a bunch of hungry idiots who feast on making celebrities miserable. Many celebs simply want to live their lives. They are just like you and me – normal people who work for a living. They get paid a lot more than we do, that’s all. A law should be enacted toward the paparazzi – if a celebrity wants to be left alone – that should be respected. Leave them alone for God’s sake. Maybe a good night sleep in the slammer would make the paparazzi think twice about the incredible harassing that continuously angers celebs.
