Michael Jackson's personality changed after Pepsi ad accident, claims Gest

Washington, April 18 (ANI): If pop singer Michael Jackson’s friend David Gest is to be believed, the horrific accident that the former ‘King of pop’ met with on the set of a Pepsi commercial in 1984 made him unbalanced.

He believes that the accident, which resulted in Jackson’s hair catching fire, changed the singer’s personality forever.

"Michael was in so much pain after that, he became unbalanced. The trauma, and the pills (painkillers), changed him," WENN quoted him as saying.

Gest, the estranged husband of Liza Minnelli, has been a friend of Jackson since he was 18, and the singer even served as best man at his wedding in 2002 in New York City.

He says that though the accident did not put any adverse impact on their friendship, it did make Jackson a different person.

"Before then, he had a tight hold of his career. The accident didn't make Michael moody or more distant towards me, but he did become a different person," he said.

Gest says that the allegations of child abuse might have reduced Jackson’s trustworthiness, but he is now seriously considering his comeback to the music industry.

"Now that those child abuse allegations are behind him, Michael is also less trusting and feels wounded. But his career vision is back and he's planning a spectacular comeback," he said. (ANI)

No things don't work that way. Although a traumatic incident can set off an episode, ones mental state is caused by a variety of factors in ones life history and getting a bad though minor burn is not apt to give one a borderline psychotic episode or bring about personality changes etc.

Let me get this straight. An accident involving Jacko’s hair and fire that took place over 20yrs ago is the reason he became a crazy homosexual pedophile? Why wait till today to inform the world? No sale, Jacko’s a freak period.

Michael Jackson is not a freak, neither is he a homosexual pedophile. People need to understand that he was vindicated - i even read most of the court transcripts and i KNOW that he did nothing wrong. Michael was just foolish enough to trust anyone again like that. For god sake, the boy said he was asleep while being abused and his brother was the only one that ssaw - pathetic story, pathetic famly. They had admitted to extorting money many times befor. Do your research first, Mark or whatever your name is before you say that. It could have had an effect on him because he became addicted to painkillers and all that. You dont know him, so how can you judge someone you have never met one day in your life based on tabloids? Thats rather sad to be honest. I can't wait for his comeback - finally some decent music. Davis Gest also said that Mj has a crush on Beyonce!!!

Michael Jackson is a phenomenal performer and artist, they've tried to pin these charges on him many times now, and have went no where with them. Sure he's a little different and his actions are slightly perculiar but how would you be if you were raised like him. His upbringing and family life was far from the norm. In the United States it only takes one person to ruin someones career by crying wolf and really that's all that's been done because no one has proved otherwise. Let him get back to being an entertainer and doing what comes natural to him, entertaining people.
