Selena, 15, who stars as Alex Russo on Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place has made a spate of public appearances over the past few days, and the buzz is that Disney, unnerved by Miley's proclivity to get mired in controversies, is hedging its bets on her with Selena.
Selena, who is a good friend of Miley, told E! Online that she and Miley remain unfazed by the speculation.
"We're literally like, It's fine. It's all good," Gomez recalled. "She's Miley and I'm Selena."
She is, however thrilled with the comparison.
"It's a little overwhelming, but I think really, it's a compliment," she said. "She's obviously extremely successful, and I think she's a wonderful performer...So being compared to her, I was very, very flattered."
Selena attended the world premiere of Kit Kittredge: An American Girl at The Grove in Los Angeles, on Saturday, June 14. The same day, she also attended a press event to promote her forthcoming film, Another Cinderella Story
Earlier this month, she walked the green carpet at the 19th Annual 'A Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival' at the Wadsworth Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 8, 2008.
Raised in Texas, Selena was discovered by Disney in a nation wide talent search when she was 10 years old.
She wears a purity ring on her left ring finger that says "True Love Waits".
Early this month, during a photo shoot for Seventeen Magazine, Selena explained the ring saying she is determined to practice abstinence until she is married. She asked her father to give her the promise ring to remind her of her vow.
"I said, 'Dad, I want a promise ring.' He went to the church and got it blessed. He actually used me as an example for other kids," she said.
