November 17, 2008, (Sawf News) - Angelina Jolie's eyes filled up and she choked with emotions at a press conference Monday, November 17, in London, to promote her new film Changeling, while talking about her mother Marcheline Bertrand, saying she was "the woman I related to" for her role in the film.

In Changeling, which is set in the 1920s, Jolie plays a woman whose kidnapped son is returned to her by the police. She suspects police have given her the wrong boy and she is sent to an insane asylum for disagreeing with the LAPD.

Explaining how she drew inspiration from her mother for her role, Jolie said:

"We used to call her marshmallow…She was the softest most gentle woman in the world.

"She was really really sweet and would never get angry - she couldn't swear to save her life," she said. "But when it came to her kids, she was really fierce and so this is very much her, her story.

"She was the woman I related to, who had that elegance and strength through just knowing what was right," she continued.

Marcheline Bertrand died of cancer in 2007.

In an interview with BBC Radio on Monday, Jolie also confirmed reports that she will replace Tom Cruise in the espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt.

"I'm working on a film called Salt. And it's with Phillip Noyce (Bone Collector director, 1999). And that's it," she said.

Elaborating on her recent comments that she wants to "fade away" from acting, Jolie said:

"I'm not making some retirement announcement," she said. "I have a big family and a lot of responsibility at home, and I have the good fortune to financially not have to work all the time.

"I just feel privileged that I get to be home a lot," she said. "Maybe eventually I'll stop [acting]."
