January 06, 2009, (Sawf News) - The conservatorship overseeing Britney Spears' personal and financial affairs was officially made permanent on Monday, January 5, when court papers were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The agreement filed in the court places Britney's finances under the permanent control of her father Jamie Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet, with her personal affairs being placed solely under her father.
Legally, Britney "is substantially unable to manage … her financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence" and "is unable properly to provide for her personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter."
Jamie Spears now has the "the power to restrict and limit visitors by any means."
A temporary conservatorship was created by Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz on February 1, 2008, to oversee Britney and her estate, while the troubled pop star recovers her mental health.
Britney's father Jamie Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet were appointed conservators of her estate and assets.
The conservatorship was made permanent by the court on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, with Britney's consent.
"I've met several times with [Britney] and she requested that I not object to the permanent conservatorship," said Samuel Ingham, who was appointed by the court to represent Britney's interests in the conservatorship.
While ruling in favor of a permanent conservatorship, Commissioner Reva Goetz said it was "necessary and appropriate for the complexity of financial and business entities and her being susceptible to undue influence."
Mental health experts say a temporary conservatorship is made permanent to avoid periodic reviews and extensions. Britney can still regain control of her life if she wishes to and her doctors concur she is capable of handling her own affairs.
