"I wasn't surprised," she tells Harpers Bazaar for its February issue. "You say you can't believe it but of course you really can!"
However, she readily concedes to being thrilled by the proposal.
"Anyone being presented with a diamond ring, you just squeal with delight," she says.
On her plans to expand the family she says, "I'm not pregnant nor will I be any time soon."
Johansson featured as Silken Floss in the Christmas Day release, The Spirit. She will be next seen in He's Just Not That Into You which opens in February. Her ambition is to star in a western.
"I would run a brothel, like a madam or something. It's only so long that people are going to want to see me in a corset. So I might as well do it now," she tells the magazine.
After dating for more than a year, Scarlett Johansson, 24, married boyfriend Ryan Reynold, 32, on September 27, 2008 in a quiet ceremony at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, on a nature reserve in British Columbia, Canada.
Canadian television and film actor Reynolds, who gained prominence in the US with his role in the television sitcom Two Guys and a Girl (1998-2001) will be next seen in The Proposal, a romantic comedy in which he is paired with Sandra Bullock.
