January 09, 2009, (Sawf News) - Echoing the sentiments of critics, Nicole Kidman admitted to a Sydney radio station that she could not bear to watch Australia at the film's premiere in November.
Taking honest introspection to a whole new level, Kidman, 41, who attended the premiere with country singer husband Keith Urban, 41, said:
"I can't look at this movie and be proud of what I've done.
"I sat there and I looked at Keith and went 'Am I any good in this movie?'
"But I thought Brandon Walters (an 11-year-old Aboriginal boy) and Hugh Jackman were wonderful.
"It's just impossible for me to connect to it emotionally at all."
In the Baz Luhrmann film, Kidman plays English aristocrat, Lady Sarah Ashley, who inherits a remote cattle station just before World War II.
When cattle barons threaten to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with an enigmatic drover, played by Hugh Jackman, in whom she becomes romantically interested. He helps to drive the cattle across the property as they are under the threat of nearby Darwin being bombed.
It was reported that Luhrmann, a perfectionist, was so rushed to complete the editing of the film before its premiere that the cast got to see it just before the world premiere in Australia.
The two-hour 40-minute long Australian period epic with a budget that reportedly exceeded $130 million, is the most expensive film ever made Down Under. The film has so far grossed $129 million.
