January 22, 2009, (Sawf News) - Reacting to their Oscar nominations, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt both praised their directors.
Nominated for the best performance by an actor in a leading role for the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Pitt said it was "a great honor for the movie."
"I'm especially happy for David Fincher, for without him there would be no Ben Button," said Pitt.
Pitt is competing for the Oscar against Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon), Sean Penn (Milk), " (Focus Features) and Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler).
His last Oscar nomination was for a supporting role in Twelve Monkeys (1996).
Angelina Jolie, nominated for the best performance by an actress in a leading role for the film Changeling, echoed similar sentiments about her director.
"Working with Clint Eastwood was a reward in itself that will last me a lifetime," she said.
"To receive a nomination from the Academy on top of that is a privilege beyond any expectation," she said. "It has been an exceptional year for acting, and I am honored to be in the company of these talented actors whose performances all deserve this recognition."
Jolie is competing for the Oscar against Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married), Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Meryl Streep (Doubt) and Kate Winslet (The Reader).
Jolie won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Girl, Interrupted (1999).
