Aniston has been invited to present an Oscar, a source tells Star magazine and though she is not easily tempted to walk the red carpet at award events, the imperative to promote her film He's Just Not That Into You could change her mind.
Both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are in contention for an Academy Award.
"She was a good girl and pulled back during the Golden Globes even though she had the hottest movie out [Marley & Me]," a friend tells Star.
Her next film, He's Just Not That Into You, releases on February 6 and features an ensemble cast of popular actors. It could still be a box office contender on Oscar night, February 22.
"The movie will likely still be near the top of the box office," says the friend. "Jen will own the night. Brad and Angie might be nominated, but Los Angeles is Jen's town."
If Aniston opts to present she will almost certainly walk the red carpet with boyfriend John Mayer.
Mayer has reportedly been urging Aniston to accept the invitation, a source close to him tells Star. He even hinted to the source that there could be an engagement before Oscar night in which case the engagement ring that Aniston debuts at the event will still be the bigger story even if both Jolie and Pitt win Oscars!
