April 07, 2009, (Sawf News) - Jessica Simpson has likely ended her association with country music as she is no longer with the Sony Nashville label.
Rumors that Jessica was dropped from the country label are, however, not true, her rep tells Usmagazine.com, since “she was on loan to Sony Nashville for her country album."
The blogosphere was abuzz with the rumors after her name went missing from both the Columbia Nashville and Sony Music Nashville websites. Her absence from Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards was noted.
A spokesperson from, Epic Records, her longtime label, has clarified that Jessica had moved to the country labels temporarily.
“Jessica is and has always been an Epic artist. She was on loan to Sony Nashville for her country album. She continues to be on Epic’s label,” the spokesperson told Access Hollywood on Tuesday.
Jessica attempted to cross over to country music with her album Do You Know released on Columbia Nashville on September 9.
The album debuted at #1 in the Billboard Country Charts and at #4 in the Billboard 200, moving an impressive 65,000 in its first week.
However, sales petered out quickly and the album has sold just 172,876 copies in the U.S. as of February.
