April 14, 2009, (Sawf News) - If reports that Mel Gibson and estranged wife of 28 years, Robyn Gibson, did not have a prenup are correct, Mel’s estimated $1 billion dollar fortune will be split 50:50.
The $500 million dollar payout would be the largest in Hollywood history, easily dwarfing 60’s popstar Neil Diamond’s $150 million settlement with his wife of 25 years, Marcia Murphey in 1994.
Other top five Hollywood break-ups include:
Steven Spielberg’s $100 million settlement with wife of 4 years, actress Amy Irving, in 1989.
Harrison Ford’s $85 million settlement with wife of 21 years in 1989, plus future earnings from films made during their period as man and wife.
Kevin Costner’s $80 million settlement with college sweetheart Cindy Silva in 1994.
James Cameron’s $50 million settlement with wife of 18 months Linda Hamilton in 1998.
Gibson's estimated assets include over $600 million grossed by The Passion of the Christ, $100-plus million in real estate investments worldwide (he bought an island in Fiji for $15 million in 2004), and $75 million for film and TV projects for which Gibson executive produced. His settlement is likely to include a clause, similar to Harrison Ford’s, covering future earning from films made during their period as man and wife.
