June 03, 2009, (Sawf News) - Angelina Jolie replaces Oprah Winfrey as the world's most powerful celebrity based on earning during the past 12 months, Internet ubiquity, press clippings, magazine covers, shout-outs on TV and radio.

Jolie tops Forbes' 2009 list of the 100 Most Powerful Celebrities having earned $27 million between June 2008 and June 2009, easing past Oprah at No. 2, who earned $275 million, more than compensating her lower income with a higher profile.

Jolie, a Goodwill Ambassador for United Nations Commission on Human Rights, was ranked No.3 on the list last year.

She recently attended the trial of Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga in The Hague on Tuesday, May 19.

A mother of six children, three of them adopted from impoverished countries, Jolie and her husband Brad Pitt are amidst the most closely followed celebrity couple in the world and together donate generously to charities.

In September 2008 they donated $2 million to the Global Health Committee to establish a HIV/AIDS clinic in Ethiopia, and in December 2008, they paid $100,000 from their Jolie-Pitt Foundation to Global Action for Children (GAC).

Madonna, who didn’t feature amidst the top 10 last year but earned $110 from her Hard Candy world tour, was placed third.

Others in the top 10 are:

4. Beyoncé Knowles ($87 million)
5. Tiger Woods ($110 million)
6. Bruce Springsteen ($70 million)
7. Steven Spielberg ($150 million)
8. Jennifer Aniston
9. Brad Pitt ($28 million)
10. Kobe Bryant

President Barack Obama became the first sitting President to be featured on the list though being counted amidst the celebrities has its perils. He is ranked 49, well below Miley Cyrus, 16, who is ranked an impressive 29.

Taylor Swift, 19, is ranked 69.
