June 10, 2009, (Sawf News) - Rihanna was served a subpoena at her attorney Donald Etra’s office on Wednesday, June 10, to testify at a preliminary hearing on June 22 in the felony assault case against Chris Brown.
"Rihanna was served at my office by L.A. DA investigators," Etra told People. "If the preliminary hearing indeed goes forward, she is now legally required to be there, she will be there, and will answer all questions truthfully."
The preliminary hearing will allow the Superior Court to determine if the DA has enough evidence to make a plausible case against Chris Brown.
Brown faces two felony charges - Assault By Means Likely to Create Great Bodily Injury and Making Criminal Threats – for his alleged assault on Rihanna on February 8 while the two were returning from a pre Grammy party.
Rihanna will have to come face to face with Brown while testifying and be subject to cross-examination by his attorney, Mark Geragos.
Geragos and the DA are negotiating a plea deal that Etra alluded to in his statement above.
