November 28, 2009, (Splash News) - Zac Efron has braved a bungee jump – which included a 275-foot freefall – while filming in Vancouver, Canada.
'We decided it was a good idea because if we were going to do something else – like mountain biking – there's a chance you're going to fall off and get injured,' he said.
'But how often does the rope get snapped?'
Efron, 22, who stars in the new movie Me and Orson Welles, showed off the tape of his daredevil stunt during an appearance on David Letterman's chat show.
But the pin-up said that his producers at the time had been less than happy when they learned of the activity.
'We had this brilliant idea to wake up in the morning and go bungee jumping – which is not a very good idea when you're in production, because you've signed various contracts,' he said.
'I've always been an athletic kid and enjoyed extreme sports like skateboarding, biking and outdoors-type stuff. I've not skydived, but I will.'
Letterman sat open-mouthed as Efron disclosed details of his jump.
'I did kind of a backflip when I went off and was falling face first,' he said.
'It's really gradual. It takes the tension up really slowly. There's no snapping action or whiplash.'
