November 30, 2009, (Splash News) - Criminal charges over Michael Jackson's death could still be months away, law enforcement officials have claimed.
Police and prosecutors do not expect to file any charges before 2010, sources close to the investigation told a US newspaper.
The delay is understood to be due to the large amount of evidence that needs reviewing, some of which involves complex medical data.
A decision on whether to file criminal charges is "months rather than weeks away", one source said.
Jackson died, aged 50, on 25 June this year, after taking a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs.
The singer's personal physician, Dr Conrad Murray, who supplied the King of Pop with the anesthetic Propofol, which the coroner's officials claim killed Jackson, has been identified as a suspect in the manslaughter investigation.
Murray, who remains the focus of the police probe, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and insists he administered the appropriate medical care when he found the pop star distressed and not breathing.
Murray's lawyer has said he is fully co-operating with the investigation.
A decision on how to proceed with the case will not be made until all the evidence in the case has been examined by the Los Angeles Police Department detectives, prosecutors and independent medical advisers.
