December 09, 2009, (Splash News) - Sir Paul McCartney has labeled his marriage to Heather Mills the mistake of the decade.
The comment was reportedly a response to a direct question on whether or not his marriage was his worst error. He said: "OK, yeah. I suppose that has to be the prime contender."
McCartney and Mills underwent an acrimonious divorce proceeding in London last year that culminated in an apparent spat between his female lawyer and Mills. The couple had wed in 2002. Mills was always rumored to have been disliked by his adult children from two previous unions.
McCartney, 67, said: "I don't want to down anyone. These things happen. I tend to look at the positive side, which is that I have another beautiful daughter out of it." His daughter with Mills, Beatrice Milly, turned six in October.
Mills received £24.3 million in her divorce settlement after demanding five times that amount.
McCartney has a new girlfriend, attractive New Yorker Nancy Shevell. He said the best things about the new century were: "Just being with my children. And having a new girlfriend. That is very nice, thank you."
