London, August 4: Middle-aged women in the UK are increasingly taking to binge drinking, a survey of 1000 readers conducted by a women's magazine has revealed.

According to the findings of the survey, women in their 40's are skipping office due to hangovers and are even passing out after a night's drinking, just like people half their age, as they struggle to cope with their stressful lifestyles.

A quarter of women said they drank moderately during the week a considerable number of 35- to 44-year-olds admitted making up for it by getting drunk at weekends.

A lot of mothers said that their children had seen them drunk. While others admitted over drinking and then missing work because of a hangover.

Women respondents also said that they have even drunk secretly and had been unfaithful while drunk.

"We are all familiar with hearing about the ladette culture, which is associated with young women, but many people will be surprised to hear that this pattern of drinking exists among a much wider age group", the Telegraph quoted Lesley King-Lewis, the chief executive of Action on Addiction, as saying.

"We are really concerned about the change in women's drinking patterns over the past 30 years", he added.

"We find time and time again that stress is a huge problem for modern women, working mothers especially, and a glass of wine at the end of the week is an attractive option. But it seems that one glass is not enough any more for many women", Marie Fahey, the editor of Prima magazine, which conducted the survey, said. (ANI)
