Inspired by Formula 1 racing, the new SLK280 Roadster packs a 3.0 liter V-6 engine and delivers an exhilarating 228 horsepower — providing one aggressive driving experience.
Its muscular stance quickens the heart rate, even standing still. And with the addition of 16-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, the new SLK280 Roadster is a thoroughly entertaining ride.
Space age electronics make your ride in the Roadster very safe. The standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP) compares the driver's intended course, via steering and braking inputs, to the vehicle's response, via lateral acceleration, rotation (yaw) and individual wheel speeds. ESP then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces excess engine power as needed to help correct understeer (plowing) or oversteer (fishtailing). ESP also integrates all-speed traction control, which senses drive-wheel slip under acceleration and individually brakes the slipping wheel or wheels, and/or reduces excess engine power, until control is regained.
For the person at the helm the Roadster borrows from Hands on Throttle and Stick (HOTAS) technology hitherto associated with fighter planes only. Multifunction display in instrument cluster can be scrolled via steering-wheel controls to operate and display various menus and vehicle features, including the resettable trip meter and outside temperature indicator; digital speed, coolant temperature, Maintenance System, and engine oil-level check; radio station, CD player and CD changer, vehicle reminder and malfunction messages; driver-programmable settings for instrument cluster, lighting, vehicle and convenience features; trip computer (elapsed time, fuel consumption, distance to empty) and mobile phone book
Also borrowed from contemporary aviation are audible reminders and messages for exterior lamp failure; low fuel, engine oil, coolant and washer fluid; and to release parking brake, switch off headlamps and remove ignition key.
At a MSRP of $43,675/- the Roadster blends luxury and style with exhiliration.
