London, Nov 18: Children, it appears, are in a growing danger of name abuse, for a recent survey of British birth certificates has revealed that an increasing number of kids are being named after sports brands, players and even clubs, by parents eager to pay homage to their heroes.

According to the survey, there is now the equivalent of a full football squad (36) – of both boys and girls – who answer to the name Arsenal.

Three boys have been given the first names David Beckham after the former England skipper, and 28 are named Brooklyn after his eldest son.

Hero worship is perfectly understandable, but what is less easy to understand is that 29 sets of parents named their child Gazza after Paul Gascoigne, the former football genius with an alcohol problem.

The list also includes a few weird parents who named their offspring not after sports stars, but the clothes they wear. There are two at large, one called Reebok and the other Adidas.

Almost 1,200 boys are called Tiger after golfing icon Woods, reports the Sun.

The survey was carried out for family history website findmypast.com.

If the trend catches, kids might soon be answering to names such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, Tottenham, Blackburn, Wigan and Nike. (ANI)
