New York, Apr 24 (ANI): Queen Elizabeth II is reportedly going to bestow the title of Prince Consort on her husband of 60 years Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Royal insiders believe that the event will take place to mark the royal couple’s 60th wedding anniversary that takes place this year.
The royal couple wed on November 20, 1947.
"The Duke of Edinburgh has been consort in all but name since her coronation. But it's one way of honoring her husband for his outstanding work during her reign," the New York Post quoted Royals commentator Richard Mineards, columnist for the Santa Barbara News-Press, as saying.
If the Duke of Edinburgh is bestowed with the title, it will only the second time that the UK will have a Prince Consort.
The last royal spouse to hold the title was Elizabeth II’s great-great grandmother Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert – 150 years ago. (ANI)
