NEW YORK (AFP) - The six-magnum case of 1985 Romanee-Conti from Burgundy, France, went for 170,375 dollars, the equivalent of more than 14,200 dollars a regular-sized wine bottle. A single magnum is equivalent to two bottles.

Five other lots broke the 100,000-dollar barrier during the fine wine sale at Christie's on Thursday night, including a double-magnum of Chateau Cheval-Blanc 1947 that realized 135,125 dollars and an eight-case lot of "five-star" wines from the 2000 Bordeaux vintage that fetched 105,750 dollars.

The top California lot of the night was 21 bottles of Napa Valley's Screaming Eagle spanning the 1995-2002 vintages, which made 52,875 dollars.

The previous world record for a case of wine at auction was 136,000 dollars bid for the 1971 vintage of Romanee-Conti at Christie's in January.
