DOHA (AFP) - The Chinese juggernaut has dominated the Asian Games and it was always about who would finish runner-up.
South Korea made sure of that position with a clutch of gold Thursday to push its tally to 58 as Japan was forced to settle for third on 50.
Lee failed to contribute to South Korea's golden haul, with Udomchoke taking the title 7-5, 6-3.
He said it meant more to him than any victory in his short career.

"I'm so happy because I was representing Thailand and that's special, it means a lot," the 25-year-old said as he replaced injured teammate Paradorn Srichaphan as the new champion.
"I was hoping for bronze and I'm a little surprised because he is the Asian number one and I played him only a few weeks ago and lost.
"But I stuck to my game plan and it worked."
Lee revealed he had caught a cold after his semi-final match which effected his performance.
Wimbledon and Australian Open champions Zheng Jie and Yan Zi made certain of another gold for China with a resounding 6-1, 7-6 (7/5) victory over Taiwan's Chan Yung Jan and Chuang Chia Jung in the women's doubles.

It capped a sensational year for the pair and was a big boost ahead of their defence of the Australian Open crown next month.
"We hope we can do better and better next year. We will go home to play the national championships and prepare for Australia. We like our chances," said Yan.
On the nearby squash courts, world number one Nicol David and compatriot Ong Beng Hee clinched a Malaysian double.
David said she was "ecstatic" after regaining her title with a 9-0, 9-3, 9-3 demolition of Rebecca Chiu, who beat her in Busan four years ago.
"I feel ecstatic," beamed David, who came into this tournament fresh from her World Open triumph in Belfast last month.

"It's the last event of the year and I wanted to finish it off with a gold."
Ong retained his title against fellow Malaysian Mohamad Azlan Iskander in a final that ran to four hard-fought games.
Lin Yue and Wang Xin won the men's and women's 10m platform diving golds to hand China a record clean sweep of all 10 titles here.
Lin, 15, beat teammate Zhou Luxin while Wang, 14, edged compatriot Chen Ruolin.
It was the first time in the history of the Games that one country has taken all 10 medals. China also won six silver.
"I felt a bit nervous so I didn't do well in the first dives. Actually, I was afraid that I had slipped to second place so I'm lucky to win gold," said Wang.
