SUNRISE, United States (AFP) - Belfour joined the late Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuck in second place among NHL netminders, just 103 triumphs shy of Patrick Roy's all-time record.
"(Sawchuck) was a great competitor, very brave, not wearing a mask for most of his career," Belfour said. "It's an honor to be tied with him. I wish he was still alive so I could meet him."
Belfour made 31 saves on October 31 in a 2-1 Toronto victory over Florida, giving the veteran a 12-3 with two drawn record against the Panthers.
"He was the difference in a game where you think he might be pressured," Maple Leafs coach Pat Quinn said.
Tomas Kaberle scored the winning goal on a power play with 9:42 remaining in the third period for the Leafs, who handed the Panthers their 13th defeat in the past 14 games thanks largely to Belfour making their lead good enough.
"It's nice when you have to be good like that, Belfour said. "Fortunately, I've been able to do that in my career."
