June 02, 2009, (Sawf News) - Microsoft will release its Windows 7 operating system on October 22 following the positive feedback it has received on the near-final release candidate version that it shipped last month.
"Windows 7 will be available on October 22," Microsoft said in a brief statement which provided no further details.
"The feedback from the release candidate has been good," Microsoft Senior Vice President Bill Veghte said in an interview.
Windows 7 will replace Windows Vista which was plagued by sluggish performance on PC’s with less than 2 GB memory and incompatibility with many Windows XP compatible applications.
While Windows Vista could not be used on Netbooks, which have rapidly proliferated this year, a release of Windows 7 is being optimized for use on them.
According to industry figures, nearly 90 percent of the world's computers use Windows operating systems.
