June 22, 2009, (Sawf News) - T-Mobile USA has announced its second Android handset, the myTouch 3G, a carrier customized version of the HTC Magic that has already shipped in parts of Europe, Asia, and Canada.
The new smartphone, which uses Android version 1.5, does away with the physical keyboard of the T-Mobile G1, the first Android based phone released in October 2008, and features a virtual keyboard to go with a 3.2-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display.
It packs a 3.2-megapixel camera with video, Wi-Fi and one click uploads to YouTube, Picasa and others.
At 4.1 ounces, myTouch is lighter that the 5.6 ounces G1. It is also slimmer and sleeker. Its improved battery life – up to six hours of talk time – addresses a major issue with the G1.
It features the same processor as the G1 but with twice as much onboard memory:512 mb.
Another departure from the G1 is side-loading memory card slot with an included 4-gigabyte micro card. The phone ships with an application called Sherpa that learns your tastes in shopping, eating and entertainment through ratings that you enter and then makes recommendations.
The myTouch will come in white, black, and a shade of burgundy it calls merlot.
T-Mobile will start taking preorders from current customers starting July 8 for $199.99 on a two-year contract. Those orders will start shipping in late July, with full national availability from early August.
